This carpet calculator estimates how much carpet you need for a room. We multiply length by width for the area and add 10% for waste from seams, doorways, and pattern matching.

Carpet is often priced by the square yard, so we convert by dividing square feet by 9. The cost estimate assumes about $3 per square foot for mid-range carpet — padding and installation are extra.

Carpet comes in fixed roll widths (commonly 12 ft), so awkward room shapes can add waste. For odd layouts, measure the widest points and round up.
