This fence material calculator estimates how many panels and posts your project needs. We divide your total fence length by a standard 8-foot panel width and round up, since you can't buy a partial panel.

A fence always needs one more post than panels — there's a post on each side of every section, so a run of 5 panels needs 6 posts. The material cost estimate assumes about $35 per panel and $22 per post.

Don't forget concrete (roughly one bag per post) and gate hardware, which aren't included in this quick estimate. Panel widths vary by style, so adjust if your panels aren't 8 feet wide.
