Gravel Calculator

Estimate cubic yards, tons, and cost of gravel.

Enter your length, width, and depth to see how much gravel you need.

How this calculation works

This gravel calculator estimates how much gravel you need for a path, base layer, or drainage bed. We multiply length by width for the area, multiply by the depth (in inches, converted to feet), and divide by 27 to get cubic yards.

Gravel is often sold by the ton, so we also convert using about 1.4 tons per cubic yard. The cost estimate assumes roughly $40 per cubic yard, but prices vary a lot by stone type and region.

A typical walkway or base layer uses 2–4 inches of gravel. Order about 10% extra to account for compaction and settling.
