Tile Calculator

Work out tiles needed and cost for any room.

Enter your area dimensions and pick a tile size to see how many tiles you need.

How this calculation works

This tile calculator works out how many tiles you need for a floor or wall. We multiply length by width for the area, add 10% for waste from cuts and breakage, then divide by the square footage of your chosen tile size.

Bigger tiles mean fewer pieces; small mosaic and subway tiles need many more. The cost estimate uses an average of $5 per square foot for mid-range tile — your actual price will depend on material (ceramic, porcelain, stone).

For complex layouts, diagonal patterns, or lots of cuts, bump the waste allowance up to 15%. Tile is sold by the box, so round up to whole boxes when ordering.
