Paint Calculator
Find out how much paint you need and what it'll cost.
Enter your room length, width, and wall height to see how much paint you need.
How this calculation works
This paint calculator answers the most common question DIY painters ask: how much paint do I need? We first find your total wall area by adding the length and width of the room, multiplying by two to get the perimeter, and then multiplying by the wall height.
One gallon of interior paint typically covers about 350 square feet per coat. Because most walls need two coats for even color, we multiply your wall area by 2, divide by the coverage rate, and round up to whole gallons. The cost estimate assumes about $35 per gallon of mid-range paint.
For the most accurate result, subtract large windows and doors and check the coverage printed on your specific paint can.
