Sand Calculator

This sand calculator estimates how much sand you need for a paver bed, sandbox, or leveling layer. We multiply length by width for the area, multiply by depth (inches converted to feet), and divide by 27 to get cubic yards.

Sand is also sold by weight, so we convert using about 1.35 tons per cubic yard. The cost estimate assumes roughly $30 per cubic yard for bulk sand.

A paver base typically uses a 1-inch sand setting bed over compacted gravel. Order a little extra to fill low spots and joints.
